Method of Work Measurement

Method of Work Measurement

1).  Historical Experience

  • Advantage(s): Easy and inexpensive
  • Disadvantage(s): Not objective and unreliable

2). Time Studies

  • Advantage(s): Accurate
  • Disadvantage(s): Requires trained staff; and Standard cannot be set before the task is performed.

3).  Predetermined Time Standards

  • Advantage(s): Established in a laboratory environment; and Can be set before the task is done.
  • Disadvantages: Can be very expensive.

4).  Work Sampling

  • Advantage(s): Not as expensive as time-study; Observers require little training; and Study can be delayed with little impact on results.
  • Disadvantage(s): Work elements are not broken down completely; Sampling MUST be random; and A long sampling time is needed.
